Independence Trail, Nevada City

Are you ready to head out on a hike this weekend but not sure where to go?

Let me suggest the Independence Trail West section. Full of mining history and also the first wheelchair accessible wilderness trail in the country.

When on Highway 49 and entering the South Yuba River State Park the trailhead will be on thr right where there is a small turnout and places to park.

To take the West Trail head go to the right where the trail will take you back under the road and onto the trail.

Next, it’s just about a mile hike to get to the waterfall and this trail is great for kids! Super flat and you could easily push a stroller or wheelchair in dry conditions. Lots of shade and fun little bridges to cross. After about five minutes you will see a turn off that takes you down to the water but I suggest unless you’re looking for a workout that you stay on the main path that is flat and doesn’t take a steep downward angle.

And yes we stopped for a Fortnite party 🤣

Safe trails and be sure check back for more fun hikes and to leave a comment below to share your experience!

Cheers,
